OFF-ROAD PRODUCTS THAT ARE KING OF THE HILL
The off-road market has climbed to $1.2 billion in retail sales for 2005?averaging a sales growth of 8.6% per year since 2000. The fact that about one-third of all vehicles sold last year were either a SUV or a pickup, coupled with the strong consumer base of off-road enthusiasts who purchase specialty-equipment, has helped to increase sales.
In a recent SEMA online survey of automotive enthusiasts, 29% of the enthusiasts surveyed indicated that they are ?very interested? in off-road vehicles. This number is up from the 22.3% last year. SEMA?s Automotive Lifestyles survey of automotive enthusiast magazine subscribers captured the opinions of nearly 5,000 subscribers to 21 different magazines, three of which were dedicated to the off-road lifestyle. Survey takers were asked to indicate the specialty equipment that they have purchased. When comparing those consumers who indicated that they were ?very interested? in off-road vehicles to those who actually subscribe to off-road magazines, there are some noticeable differences.
Tires, air intakes and exhausts rank as the top three modifications performed by enthusiasts in both groups. Bigger tires are often added to give one?s pickup or SUV the look and feel of an off-road vehicle even if there are no intentions to ever go off road. Air intake and exhaust upgrades are both relatively inexpensive air flow modifications compared to some other types of modifications on the above table but also help to increase fuel efficiency and performance as well.
SEMA surveyed automotive enthusiasts through an online survey that was e-mailed to subscribers of automotive enthusiast magazines during the month of June. A total of 4,896 responses were received as of July 14?survey respondents were predominantly male (96%), an average age of 43 (although ages were evenly distributed between 16 and 58), and have pursued higher education (64% with at least some college, excluding trade schools). The survey does not represent a random sample. Had the survey been random, the results would be accurate to plus or minus 1.4% assuming a 95% confidence level.

Re: USA-news: OFF-ROAD PRODUCTS THAT ARE KING OF THE HILL
Verrek, een SUV of een Offroad wagen heeft natuurlijk ook een grote markt voor "extra's" en zo, dat kan het voor fabrikanten OOK leuker maken om een dergelijke wagen te verkopen
