Remvloeistof DOT 5.1

Is remvloeistof DO 5.1 bruikbaar in een series zonder remservo, niet gescheiden systeem?
Deze vloeistof is op siliconen basis en zou niet gevoelig zijn voor wateropname.
Is het veilig voor de rubbers in de cilinders?

Ik heb ooit van iemand het bericht meegekregen dat onze rubbers dit spul niet “lekker” vinden.
Als je het wel gaat proberen dan met je het systeem goed met Dot 5 spoelen omdat het NIET gemengd mag worden met Dot 3 of 4.

What brake / clutch fluid should you use in your Land Rover?
Technical specification:
DOT3 Glycol based boiling point: 205°C
DOT4 Glycol based boiling point: 230°C
DOT5 Silicone based boiling point: 260°C

All glycol based brake fluid can be mixed with other glycol based brake fluid.
You can use DOT3 and mix it with DOT4. DOT3 will do in all vehicles with only
drum brakes. DOT4 should be used in all vehicles with disc brakes or a drum /
disc brake system.

That means for your Land Rover you are safe to use DOT4 in all models. DOT3 and
DOT4 can be used in all SERIES Land Rovers.

Why DOT5?
DOT5 is something completely different then all previous kinds off brake fluids.
It was developed by the US military. All glycol based brake fluids absorb water.
Whether you use it or not. DOT3 and DOT4 absorb water. Never use a container
that has been opened for some time. Renew all brake and clutch fluid after every
2 years. If water is absorbed in your brake system it will start to corrode your
brake pipes. Your brake pipes will start to swell. Mostly it will not be visible
from the outside. If you have problems with letting the air off the brakes,
change all pipes and start renewing the brake fluid every 2 years.
DOT5 was developed in the search for a brake fluid that would not absorb water.
Because DOT5 does not absorb water there is no use to renew it. It will have the
same life time expectancy as the vehicle it uses. Therefore it is more
environmentally friendly then glycol based brake fluids.
Be careful not to mix the 2 different kinds. When "upgrading" to DOT5 brake
fluid you should pay attention to some important point. First off all make
sureALL rubber components you use in your brake system are DOT5 ready. Older
rubber parts will be eaten away by DOT5. Secondly flush your brake system
thoroughly. Better renew all parts.

Het gaat erom, dat het spul waterbestendig zou zijn.
Ik ben telkens voor een paar maanden weg en dan staat de auto stil in de box.
Heb al een paar keer gehad, dat ik bij terugkomst vaste zuigers aantrof.

Dan heb ik nog wat nieuws voor je:

De vloeistof van DOT 5.1 is inderdaad waterbestendig, wat inhoudt dat het geen water op zal nemen. Het nadeel hierbij is dat het dus ook eventueel vocht in het remsysteem niet zal opnemen (en dus bij verversen mee zal spoelen), eventueel vocht (condens, minime lekkage, etc.) zal dus neerslaan op de wanden van het remsysteem, liefst op het laagste punt (dichtheidsverschillen), en dus juist meer problemen als corrosie kunnen veroorzaken.

Remsystemen die geschikt zijn voor 5.1 zijn hier meestal ook op ontworpen.

Gewoon goede standaard remvloeistof gebruiken. Slechte is er niet, dus de goedkoopste is de beste
